Uma Singh is a lyric soprano and voice teacher from Cleveland, Ohio. She currently attends Northwestern University, where she is in the first year of her Masters of Music in Voice and Opera Performance. Uma is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, where she received her Bachelors of Music in Voice Performance as well as a minor in German. During her time at the University of Michigan, she performed as Euridice in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, and in the choruses of Candide, Die Fledermaus, and Iolanthe. She has attended the Collaborative Piano Institute Vocal Academy, Brancaleoni International Music Festival, and Middlebury College’s German for Singers Program, where she appeared as Countess/Pamina in a Mozart pasticcio. This fall, she covered the role of Leona Raines in the midwestern premiere of Christopher Cerrone’s In a Grove with Northwestern Opera Theatre. This coming spring, Uma is looking forward to singing First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with Northwestern Opera Theatre. In May, she’ll be singing the title role of Alcina, in Handel’s Alcina, also with Northwestern Opera Theatre. Uma has been teaching classical, musical theater, and contemporary voice privately for over 3 years, and loves working with students of all ages. In her spare time, Uma is an avid baker, dog lover, reader, and sea creature enthusiast, and enjoys learning about Greek mythology!
